Mirrorball
Bijin (2007 CD/R) |
The first new
Nisennenmondai CD since 2006's full-length debut
Rockon,
Mirrorball is at once excitingly new and frustratingly familiar. Both tracks on
Mirrorball make heavy use of delay loops and shoot for a much dancier sound than their previous, more no wave/krautrock style. The second track is the more effective of the two, with its
Baba O'Reilly sequencer and disco bass, but both tracks suffer from
Nisennenmondai's seemingly terminal aversion to anything approaching decent production. It's only 500 yen and well worth it for the money, but, as always, it sounds far better live and one can't help but wonder what a good producer with a free hand to mould their sound in the studio would be able to make of them.
