"Change/Return/Success"  Neils Children  Release date: 2004  Label: Soft City Recordings

I didn't think much of Neils Children when we saw them in the UK back in March. Perhaps I was annoyed by their childish insistence on dropping the apostrophe from their name or perhaps I was just so blown away by how great The Fog Band were, I can't remember. Anyway, this compilation mini-album is pretty damned good. "I Hate Models" is the best track because it sounds like Wire, but "How Does It Feel Now You're On Your Own" sounds like The Fall, which is almost as good, and "In The Past" is proper psychedelic-like with phasing and everything. In fact, every track on this CD has something going for it, with a great, rasping guitar sound, psychotic drums, ominous, military basslines, all sweating great buckets of attitude. I'm sorry Neil, I said bad things about you and your children. -Ian Martin, Oct.20.04.
