"All Black Out!!"  The Outs  Release date: 2004  Label: UK Project

Springing, fully-formed, out of the untidy ashes of Evil Hoodoo, The Outs are like a slightly more coherent Guitar Wolf with better taste in music and clothes. Their obvious love of black threads and onstage shades will definitely be familiar to many, but they cut their music from a more 60s vein than their rock and roll orientated lupine peers. Like all true garage bands, the dominant influence is The Rolling Stones, with “656” shamelessly ripping the drums, the riff, and the “Whoo-hoo-hooo”s from "Satisfaction” and “Dirty Fuzz” taking its cues from “Mother's Little Helper” and enlivening things a bit with some dirty, voodoo Hammond. Of course, The Stones are really only a starting point and if you just take a trip through your music nerd friend's collection of “Nuggets” and “Pebbles” compilations you'll find plenty of other stuff like this. To hammer the point home there's a cover of garage standard “Don't Look Back” by The Remains. Musically innovative this isn't, but retro to a fault? Pastiche is a fine, pure and noble thing when delivered with conviction, and these tracks are pretty well put together and there can be no doubt that these guys are really into it. The Outs are one of those bands who really demand to be seen live, but this debut CD is at the very least a great taster for the experience. -Ian Martin, Sep.14.04.
