Another winning single from the increasingly sturdy Bloc Party. Although sadly not a cover version of the XTC song, this is still a furious, hook-laden new wave pop assault, with a Jam-like melody over Gang Of Four guitars, and with Kele's vocals still providing a bittersweet heart surge every time they come into play. Their indie tendencies come into the mix rather more on B-side "Always New Depths", and one wonders whether if jerky post-punk type stuff wasn't so unutterably fashionable right now, this is what they might sound like all the time. It's a decent song, but the moral of the story is "thank fuck for fashion". -Ian Martin, Nov.28.04
