"The Magician"  Clinic  Release date: 2004  Label: Domino

Who loves Domino this week? Me, that's who. With Franz Ferdinand due to set Fuji Rock alight before the week is out, the excellent Sons And Daughters mini-album reviewed elsewhere on these pages, and the Clearlake album still a regular fixture on the Clear And Refreshing stereo, what more could an indie label do to win a music lover's heart? New Clinic anyone? Gimme!

First up, yay, the insistent, repetitive beats and highly strung, indecipherable vocals sound like everything else Clinic have ever done, but with added snake-charming sounds. On the B-side, "Golden Rectangle" comes on like a warped instrumental version of "For The Wars", and "Nicht" is a one-and-a-half-minute explosive hardcore noise device that made my insides feel like they were being scooped out with a spoon. If I ever have a son, I'm going to name him Domino. -Ian Martin, Jul.27.04.
