The appearance of this demo CD with just one gig remaining before the departure of guitarist Kei Akiya makes it more of a swansong than a statement of intent, but a tight, powerful, aggressive, rock and roll swansong it nevertheless is. Do The Boogie do not take themselves very seriously and their tendency towards suddenly incorporating riffs from The Kinks and The Doors into their own songs is gloriously shameless rather than irritating. The first two tracks, "Yakeppachi-no Koi-no Uta" and "Anoko-ga..." are focussed slices of sixties power chords and hi-energy garage thrills. "8 Beat Young" and "Lucky" are pub rock stomp-alongs that recall a bit of The Pirates and, especially the latter track, a bit of The Stranglers in its yobbishly shouted vocals. The word on the street is that bassist/vocalist Yusuke Toyoshima and drummer Hideharu Ozawa are going to continue under a new name, but where they will find a guitarist with enough pasion and energy to fill Kei Akiya's shoes is anyone's guess. -Ian Martin, Dec.23.04
