"Michael"  Franz Ferdinand  Release date: 2004  Label: Domino

You know this song: it's the lasciviously homoerotic, deliciously danceable, infectiously hummable one off one of this year's most spectacular albums. While it loses some of the invention and edge of other tracks on the album in its quest for full-on leering raveupness (raveuposity?) that just makes it all the better a choice for a single

Over the other side, the real reason you bought the single, "Love And Destroy" is in more familiar Josef K/Gang Of Four territory. Yeah, it sounds a lot like "Darts Of Pleasure", but then, woo! Stop the presses! Band makes song resembling other song by same band! It's good. But not as good as "Missing You", which retains Franz's sharp rhythmical cut but takes a melodic turn into more poignant Roxy Music territory. More like this please. -Ian Martin, Oct.20.04.
