Wow! Where did this come from? The four tracks here each burn with confidence, energy, joy, melancholy, melody and beauty. The most obvious reference point is 80s new wavers The Psychedelic Furs but that doesn't do justice to the depth of ideas going on in the 15 or so minutes of this EP. They cast their nets much wider than their immediate influences and, like The Strokes, every moment of every track bubbles with new sounds, hooks and chord changes. Perhaps their closest contemporaries though, are Interpol with whom they share a love of British music from the 80s and whose clear, majestic guitar sound and tortured vocal delivery seem to be shooting from the same place. Nevertheless, on the evidence of this, The Killers are aiming for the stars and beyond. Shit name though. -Ian Martin, Oct.29.03
