"Somebody Told Me"  The Killers  Release date: 2004  Label: Lizard King Records

More aggressively danceable follow-up to last year's breakthrough "Mr. Brightside" single. "Somebody Told Me" takes the currently in-vogue eighties New Wave synth-disco thump and wraps an insistent, breathless chorus around it. Brandon Flowers' slightly camp, emotionally taught vocals and Smiths-like lyrics carry the song into the realm of the quite-special-actually and ensures that your attention is never allowed to stray during the rewarding but slow-burning B-sides "The Ballad Of Michael Valentine" and "Under The Gun". Basically, if you just read our review of the Stellastarr* single you can just substitute the words "My Coco" for "Somebody Told Me" and you'd have a perfectly functional review of this lovely song. Impossible not to like. -Ian Martin, Apr.03.04
