This is great. I know I reviewed a couple of these songs a few weeks ago, but there's something about monster-sized, dirty Kinks riffs being hammered out with the strategic effectiveness that they are on songs like "I Miss You", something about Noboru Momose's hoarse, can't-sing-won't-sing voice, something about the joyous shamelessness of the bass solos, that makes me feel ten feet tall. The awesome Jekyll and Hyde style cover version of "Hey Joe" starts out as angular as you like, reaches the end all cool and unruffled, then rewinds to the start, emerging from the timeslip like a roughed up version of garage legends The Leaves' classic speed-fuelled 60s version. Hendrix? Who the fuck is Hendrix? "Fall In Love With You" has lyrics that go "Come on!", which is almost as good as lyrics that go "Yeah yeah yeah", and Eriko's guitar and Noboru's harmonica combine to maximum dirty mod blues effect. Their live events are usually pretty good so catch them at Musashi-Sakai Statto on August 29th. -Ian Martin, Jul.27.04.
