"Hello G'bye" Yuki Release date: 2004 Label: Epic
|
The new single from the insanely popular and occasionally lamented Judy And Mary's kooky ex-vocalist sticks pleasantly close to the formula that she has honed over her two solo albums, "Prismic" and "Commune", namely the contented marriage of a pretty catchy tune to mildly rock guitars and some fairly squeaky moaning bits. Following on from the relatively polished second album, there are some marginally sentimental electric piano lines, some somewhat pointless strings and some slightly wet backing "woo-ohh-ohhh"s to ensure that no-one is scared too much by the opening guitar chords that are partially reminiscent of a faintly slowed down "Two Princes" by The Spin Doctors. Backing it up, is "Maiagare" which at least has the decency to be a straightforward, honest, largely interchangeable pop song that could just as easily be sung by Ueto Aya or one of the older members of Morning Musume. -Ian Martin, Nov.28.04
